SENIOR COACHING APPOINTMENTS / PRESEASON
October 27th, 2011We are pleased to announce the we have appointed 2 new senior coaches to our premier men’s and premier women’s teams.
Roy Wiseman will lead our senior men’s coaching ranks. He has a distinguished background at both South’s United (at a Premier League level) and Capalaba Bulldogs, and has been involved in player development at all levels and age groups. He holds a “B” level coaching licence and is excited by the mix of players currently playing at Annerley and is looking forward to helping them achieve the best results possible on the field with a view to playing regular finals football and pressing for promotion in the future.
Phil Canham will take over as coach of our Diamond League Premier Women’s team. He has recently been involved in coaching at a variety of levels in women’s football and is currently the U14 Coach for the Central Brisbane FC JPL after a successful season last year with the U12 team. He currently holds a “C” level licence and soon to participate at the National Futsal championships as the FQ Coach for the Youth Womens team.
Both coaches are currently developing plans for preseason training which will commence in November for the Premier Men’s and December for the players looking to play in the Women’s Diamond League. Further details on training plans and timetables are available in the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s pages of the website.
NORMAN CREEK 2026 PROJECT
August 10th, 2011
The Annerley Recreation Club has been participating in the initial phases of work being undertaken on the Norman Creek 2026 Project. In an Australian first, Brisbane City Council is planning the rejuvenation of an entire inner-city catchment – Norman Creek. This catchment of almost 30 square kilometres takes in some of the city’s busiest and most developed neighbourhoods and includes the suburbs of Mt Gravatt, Tarragindi, Holland Park West, Holland Park, Annerley, Camp Hill, Greenslopes, Woolloongabba, Coorparoo, Norman Park and East Brisbane
This project has the potential to significantly impact on our club which is in the middle of the catchment and as you are all aware impacted directly by the concrete drain that forms much of Norman Creek.
Council is currently seeking community feedback on the recently released Draft Vision and Concept Plan. Once finalised this vision will guide master planning and future investment. I strongly encourage all members and anyone with an interest in the local community to read the Draft Vision and Concept Plan and to participate in the on-line survey and have your say on the future of the Norman Creek Catchment.
Link to the survey: http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/environment-waste/plans-projects/NormanCreek2026/index.htm
At the end of the survey please indicate that you are from the the Annerley Recreation Club as this will help us gauge the level of interest in the project and the way in which we distribute information to members.
NB – Survey Closes 26th August 2011

NEW LIFE MEMBER – DAVE MELVILLE
August 8th, 2011Well a great night had by all at the recent back to Annerley night and quite a success.
It was good to see the number of junior club members come along to play under lights and watch the reserve grade team battle it out with KPR for a 2 – 0 win before watching the seniors in a close encounter go down 0 – 1 to KPR.
Importantly however the night was a great opportunity for the club to recognise the effots it’s most recent Life Member.
Dave Melville who is currently the DOC at the juniors was acknowledged for his significant contribution to the club over many years. Since joining as a junior he hs played almost all of his life for the club and held coaching and managing positions at all levels including a number of years as the clubs Senior Team coach where he successfully managed to get the club back to the Premier Div 2 level from Metro 1.
Dave’s contribution to the Club should be an inspiration to all parents and players and serves as a constant reminder that you only get out what you put in.
The ARC Committee is extremely gratefully for Dave’s longstanding contribution to the club and was able to thank him with a gift voucher from the LightHouse Restaurant who are a long time sponsor of the senior club.
